Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Adoption in the States

About 4% of registered light-duty vehicles in the United States are either electric, hybrid electric, or plug-in hybrid, as of 2023. That’s more than double than in 2016. However, electric adoption isn’t consistent across the country.

Western states registered the most electric vehicles, followed by the eastern states. Middle America is in less of a rush. Overall, hybrid vehicles still make up the bulk of electric adoption, but full electric vehicles seem to be catching up in some states, such as California, Hawaii, Florida, and New Jersey.
