Yes, this is real. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used a bomb-shaped diagram to illustrate the line that must be drawn to prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons. No doubt this a serious matter, but I’m not sure the drawing lends value to the message.
I saw Netanyahu and his diagram in the newspaper this morning and was in temporary disbelief. Politically, though, it seems like a smart, effective move. I know it got *my* attention. Anything that can generate surprise is bound to be more effective in attracting attention rather than being quickly dismissed in the information/news onslaught of the day.
Simplifying such a serious subject with lame theatrics… great job Netanyahu.
Another clear indication that the infographic mania might have bottomed out

@Drew, I don’t see anything funny in ridiculing this topic as it deals with extremelly grave matters. And there is absolutely nothing good and especially nothing funny in Iran getting nuclear weapons.
Netanyahu wanted to draw at least some public attention to this problem and it looks like he at least partially succeeded.
The people that were mocking Bibi with those gfake praphics did so to call attention to his simplistic but nonetheless extremely dangerous warmongering. And to upset some of his less than thoughtful supporters and it looks like they completely succeeded.
Comedy is used to address serious issues all the time.
Colin Powell’s UN speech graphics > Netanyahu’s. I’m sure each of these speeches will have an equally esteemed place in the history books.
If he wanted people to take him seriously he shouldn’t have used such a funny prop. When I first saw a screenshot I thought it was Photoshopped. The response was to be expected.
Did he leave the stage via one of those black circles you can throw against the wall?
I think it illustrates his position perfectly. It’s clear, to the point. Whether you agree we him is a completely different matter of course.
I feel like usually the problem with those round cartoon bombs is that you want to stop them before the fuse burns up…as long as the insides are explosive, I don’t much care what % they are filled to.
These are perfectly splendid graphics – they got brought up here and countless other places in a fashion that your boring, statistically correct bar graph never would.
He leaves no room for ambiguity and achieved his objective. I thought of Tufte example showing crimes of John Gotti associates. http://www.thejuryexpert.com/2011/11/a-necessary-evil-edward-tufte-and-making-the-best-of-powerpoint/
I will let the following meme speak for me in this particular case: http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3r4i1u/
Don’t tell anyone.
This one is practically sane next to the triangle he published on facebook and the tree he drew on live TV…

The roots say security and values, the stem says economy and the fruits say social. I think the whole thing looks like a mushroom cloud.

The trinagle came first and gave birth to a torrent of memes, hard to believe he kept doing it.
I agree, I think it’s meme o’clock on the internet.
