Steve Jobs stepped down as CEO of Apple yesterday, and one of the reasons we actually care is because he had a hand in so many major products that we use every day. Shan Carter and Alan McLean, for The New York Times, provide a breakdown of all 313 Apple patents that include Jobs in the group of inventors.

wow…beautiful layout and excellent summary. There’s definitely a clear distinction in the number of design patents versus utility patents. Utility patents have the claims, design patents have just images that describe the look.
…so Jim: in the case of the staircase…that’s just a design patent. Probably strategically made to help define a definitive look and feel of an apple store.
