You’ve probably already noticed (unless you’re subscribed to the feed), but FlowingData now has a brand new look and feel. It started with a tweak, and then I just got carried away. I think it took a turn for the best though. Some of the changes include a new logo, featured articles, and more focus on visualization.
New Logo
I was never really pleased with my old logo (a bar chart showing x squared). I don’t know. It just never did it for me. I like this new one a lot more. It’s a little more colorful (along with the rest of the site), and I feel like it goes better with the FlowingData themes.
Featured Articles
On the homepage, I decided to have a featured article, which I hope to update about once a week. Basically, it’ll be an article similar in flavor to what I usually post, but it will be something I feel deserves a little bit more highlighting. You can read this week’s featured article here.
Visualization Focus
I wanted to make visualization projects easier to find, so you should see image strips in the sidebar that show the most recent viz posts. I also reorganized my viz posts a little bit into the statistical, artistic, and mapping viz categories, which is evident on the homepage.
So those are the main things. There’s plenty of small changes that I’ll let you find on your own. If you come across any bugs or weirdness, have any suggestions on how to improve the FlowingData theme, or just want to say hi, I’d love to hear them in the comments. Content-wise, I’ll continue to post the same good stuff (and some bad stuff) since we all know it’s the inside that counts.
I like the new look! I thought the previous one was great too. The logo is cool.
