Periodic table of swearing

I know you secretly love all information in periodic tables. It’s okay, you can laugh. I won’t tell anyone. In the latest to the ever-growing list of non-element tables, Modern Toss has a look at all the lovely four-letter words and expressive phrases at your disposal.

  • Clearly no attempt to understand the sequence of the lanthanide elements. Disqualified!

  • This is pretty lame. Actually this is EXTREMELY lame. So lame that it shouldn’t even be on flowingdata. And here is why…

    1. The atomic numbers don’t make sense.
    2. The groups (IA, IIA… VIIA) is pretty random. The only thing that happens is that the cuss word gets long (but that too is not done convincingly).
    3. What’s with the colors? Do they signify something or did miss that part altogether.
    4. Just in general, there is no rhyme or reason for any of this classification. It’s just a bunch of cuss words thrown in together.

    LAME!

  • It’s also clearly missing a few elements. Such as GFY.

  • This is the first thing on flowingdata that I’ve found completely useless!

  • Generally meh, but I did find #88: Oo to be quite amusing. Talk about name/meaning synergy.

  • After three years it was bound to happen :)

  • Only started reading this blog a month or two ago. I read lots of useful and interesting posts in the archives.

But now I know you promote this sort of garbage I’ll stick to better blogs.

I’ll try to remember to come back in a year to browse your archives in case you publish some better stuff.

    heya,

    Guys, come on, chillaxe…*sigh*

Ok fine, so I think it’s kinda lame as well, although I can still see the humour of it.

And hey, occasionally you need to see the lighter side of things =). So kudos to Nathan for putting this on.

And to Tim (and to a lesser degree, tony), you need to get off your high horse. I’m pretty sure Nathan/Flowing Data don’t work themselves into a sweat at night because you threatened to NOT READ THEIR BLOG! OH NOES!

You’re as bad as those silly twits who threatened TO LEAVE GOOGLE CHROME for Firefox because Google decided to make some UI changes. Seriously, it’s childish.

It’s like saying, gee, I don’t like you, I’m going to pack my toys and go home. What is this, pre-school?

    Cheers,
    Victor

its lame. There’s no order to anything. Nor does it correspond to a real periodic table.

That said, keep posting Nathan. One way of learning what to do in our own work is by seeing what not to do.
