I think that the consumers are also to blame. They ripped off more than they could chew by building expensive houses and overbuying. This caused the CDSs to fail, and the CDOs were dependent upon them.

i have just read that AIG is the world leader in sharia-compliant-financing, and that case is being brought under the establishment clause against the us treasury. so one answer to the question "where did the money go?" is "to a religious organization" !!!! google aig sharia compliant financing and see if that's what you get out of what you find, it sure sounded that way to me. it's heavy reading but VERY interesting. are AIG's assets in other countries subject to seizure by those gov'ts if aig is allowed to fail? hmmmm. i gotta go read it again.

Thanks all, I'll check things out. The last Sankey diagram I did was constructed in PowerPoint -- the koolaid of choice in business consulting. While it readily conveyed the info, it wasn't easy on the eyes.

Sankeys are great. I have yet had the opportunity to use one in my work, but I saw a sankey of energy use in Mother Jones a few months bag and i blew my mind. The clarity and ease of information.
