I've been playing a bit with the game Spore, and it sometimes looks very similar to the space stage. Which has a star system with colored relations between the different empires, and even the arrow-like flow directions for trade routes is pretty much the same: http://i34.tinypic.com/2ljj48x.jpg Anyway, I think this is an awesome way to analyze or present data.
